Football Friday Nights

September 16th of 2016 Pick Central Tigers took on the Groveport Madison Cruisers. Coming out of the game with a Win of 46 to 14! Of course, a great win as always for our Tigers.

Before the game started; Coach Sharrett had given me permission to go and ask two of his players a couple of questions. Jeremiah Wood and Xavier “The X” Henderson.

To start off my very small and limited time interview I asked, “How long have each of you been playing football for?” Both players answered back with, “Ten years.” Now you may not think this but ten years is quite a long time. You have to add in the fact that both of these players are in fact Juniors @PickCentral. They have only a short amount of time before colleges start searching again.

One other question I had to ask was, “Would you say there is a lot of pressure playing for one of the top high schools in Ohio having a 10 OCC Championship record?” Both of these young men have said, “Yes!” So I dug a little deeper.

For me, I would have to say that being a junior in high school following behind all of the seniors that are being looked at and on the starting line it could be a little frightening.

This past Friday was indeed our homecoming game. All of these players have dates and have to get ready the next morning and afternoon for the dance. Do you think that homecoming being on that Saturday took away some focus from the game? Well I asked this question to both Mr. Wood and Mr. Henderson. They each had a very interesting response. Both along the same lines though. “I believe that we are just meant to play our hardest and when coach puts us out on the field that is what we are meant to do. We do not have time to think about the dance the next day and how good-looking we should be, but to focus on the first goal that is on the playing field.”

Lastly, my last and final question, “With college right around the corner, do you find a lot of pressure playing in order to get your name out there?” Jeremiah Wood says this, “ No! I say that we are to go out and play our hardest and our best and the schools will come to us.”

This has know ended my interview with these two Junior football players and the game of course was a great win for Pick Central! 46 to 14, and a huge congratulations to our winners of homecoming king and queen: Ireland Landis and Sterling Manley!!!

Great job also to our student section for getting the football team and the stadium itself hyped up and to our wonderful band as well!
