The Return of the Tasmanian Tiger

By Anthony Hines

Back in 1936, the Tasmanian Tiger was declared an extinct species, due to having to compete against the Dingo. However, back in 2008, a video was being studied by the Thylacine Awareness Group, where they discovered that the animal may not be extinct, and may be making a comeback in southern Victoria, Australia.

The video was only recently released, as determining if it was real or not, turn out to be a real problem. Founder of Thylacine Awareness Group, Neil Waters, says “that there a number of features which would indicate the animal is a thylacine, or a possible subspecies of it” . He also comments that it walks more like a Thylacine would, less like a dog or fox.

The Tasmanian Tiger has stripes down its back, a long stiff tail, a thick neck, and is much stockier than a dog. Based off the information that is shown in the video, it became clear that the animal was almost indeed, a Tasmanian Tiger.

The video can be found on youtube here.
